The "Charlie Special", How an Industry Expert Maintains Her Appearance

Our readers routinely turn to Charlie Sheridan, director of Marina Plastic Surgery, for aesthetic advice. This month, Sharon H. used the Chat with Charlie feature in the right column to ask, "Every time I see you in the office I am in awe of your skin...What is your secret?"

In a skin-soothing exposé (it's anything but blistering) Charlie lays it all on the line and shares her beautiful skin secret. Here it is in Charlie's own words.

"All right, I'll start 'Sharon' my little secrets... Besides, after such a terrific compliment, how can I resist? First things first: I started off by having a VISIA skin analysis to literally diagram an outline of my various skin-care needs - everything from wrinkles to sun damage. I used that report as a map-of-sorts, to follow a path to improve my skin both cosmetically and physically. My sun damage was first addressed and treated with a series of Photofacials and XEO laser. (I loved how this finally got rid of those ugly spots from years of sun exposure!) Following that, I had a series of microdermabrasions to literally "polish" my skin. What do ya know? Your skin will glow! Next, I had Cory treat me with Botox and Restylane for the wrinkles...(I knew there was a reason I chose this career...hee hee). Finally, I had ThermaCool treatments to address the skin that needed tightening. As you can see, I took care of everything — skin texture, age spots, sunspots, wrinkles and skin tone. In doing so, I restored the natural health of my skin... and, oh, along the way... took years off my appearance! All of these treatments are "lunch-time" procedures, and require no downtime. If you're really feeling indulgent, why not have permanent makeup as well? Everything is done here at the office... It's affordable, quick and painless. Lucky for me... New Site Celebrates Breast Reduction

Maximum Skin Resurfacing with Minimum Downtime

Fraxel The new Fraxel Laser combines state-of-the-art laser resurfacing technology with fiber optics to deliver a very high, "Damn, why didn't I think of that," factor. Both the results, and the idea behind the Fraxel laser, will blow you away.

Laser Resurfacing, more or less the gold-standard in drammatic skin rejuvenation, comes with a drammatic recovery period. So the folks over at Reliant Technologies asked, "How do we deliver the results of laser skin resurfacing without the nasty recovery." Their answer was to treat just a fraction of the skin surface during a session. Their Fraxel uses highly controlled lasers to create tiny thermal interactions in small points along the treatment area. These interactions cause the underlying collagen to rebuild itself, smoothing out lines and wrinkles and evening out skin tone. While thousands of microscopic areas are treated, the surrounding untreated areas act as healing aides, helping the skin to recover more quickly. Most people describe the first days after treatment like having a mild sunburn.
