How It Works

Sculptra is in injectable filler made from a safe, synthetic injectable material known as "poly-L-lactic acid." This filler is ideal for replacing facial fat loss, such as that which is commonly due to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It works by increasing collagen production, gradually and significantly increasing skin thickness, especially along the cheeks. Since poly-L-lactic acid is biocompatible (a material that does not harm the body), no skin test is required.

Sculptra can be used alone or in conjunction with other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, and other dermal fillers. It also effectively restores facial volume in patients who have had face lift cosmetic surgery. While the improvements from Scupltra can last as up to 2 years, it is not a permanent filler. Many Beverly Hills and Los Angeles patients return periodically for maintenance treatments.

What to Expect

Although there's no downtime associated with Sculptra, treatments can take from 15 minutes up to 1 hour depending on the size of the areas being treated. Improvements appear gradually as collagen production increases, which can take approximately 6 weeks. Optimal results usually require at least 3 to 6 treatments, each spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart.
