Brazilian Butt Lifts More Popular Than Ever At Marina Plastic Surgery

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery recently reported an increase of 136% in Brazilian butt lift procedures from 1997 to 2012. Luis H. Macias, MD, a specialist in the procedure at Marina Plastic Surgery in Marina del Rey, CA, also notes a spike in requests for the surgery. A Brazilian butt lift uses the patient’s harvested fat taken from the thigh, arms, abdomen or lower back and injects it into the buttocks.

"Trying to reshape the buttocks through diet and exercise can seem like a losing battle. Buttocks size and shape is mostly determined by genetics, which leaves many people longing for another option,” says Dr. Macias. “Transferring living tissue from one part of the body to another in a butt lift is often the answer. Since it’s the patient’s own fat, rejection is not an issue.”

Dr. Macias uses fat grafting to fill the deficient areas of the buttocks so it appears significantly more full and youthful. In addition, liposuction is used to sculpt a smaller waist and transform the patient’s shape to an hourglass figure. The key is to achieve a harmonious hip to waist ratio with the liposuction and fat grafting. Compared to implants, it’s safer and doesn’t require a foreign body. The Brazilian butt lift has less post-operative discomfort and requires minimal recovery time, which means a quicker return to a normal schedule. Most women have enough fat to transfer to enhance the buttocks region significantly, however if there is not enough fat, a combination of implant and fat transfer are done at the same time.

Dr. Macias specializes in aesthetic and complex reconstructive plastic surgery. A University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine alumnus, Dr. Macias completed a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Mayo Clinic, followed by a fellowship in microvascular reconstructive surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Macias underwent further training in the USC-Marina Plastic Surgery Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship under the direction of Dr. Grant Stevens, the founder of Marina Plastic Surgery. He is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Keck School of Medicine of USC, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. To book a complimentary consultation, call 877-298-9915.
