Spots are great on a Dalmatian, but they don't belong on your face. Blotchy skin pigmentation and dark spots may be caused by sun exposure, hormones, or even your family genetic background. When they appear on your face, these dark spots can ruin your otherwise attractive appearance. To even out and blend your skin tone, Cosmelan works by removing dark spots and discolorations caused by the buildup of melanin (a condition known as melasma or chloasma). Cosmelan treats freckles, blemishes, and dark spots for people with even the most sensitive skin types by inhibiting the process that causes hyperpigmentation.

What is Cosmelan?

Cosmelan is actually a series of treatment products that, when used as directed over time, will greatly reduce blotchy skin pigmentation. First, there is Cosmelan 1 cream, which we apply to the treatment areas during your office visit. This cream acts as a chemical peel to gently remove discolored patches of skin. To maintain your improved skin appearance, you then will use Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream along with Hydra Vital Factor K cream daily in your own home. What Does Cosmelan Treat?

This treatment can improve the appearance of most skin discolorations, such as brown spots, blotchy skin, acne blemishes, and other forms of hyperpigmentation. Patients can see up to a 95% reduction in spots and blemishes. What Benefits Does Cosmelan Offer?

Depigmentation treatment has many advantages, including:

  • Efficient, long-term reduction of all types of melasma
  • Compatibility with all skin types
  • Brighter skin complexion due to the cream's light peeling effect
  • Effective reduction of acne skin blemishes and discolorations
  • A safe formula containing no hydroquinone
  • Minimal side effects, such as minor flaking and redness

The Treatment Process

Your treatment is completed in two steps. The first step involves application of the Cosmelan 1 cream by a professional in our office. During this visit, your skin first is cleansed with a degreasing solution to eliminate oils and skin impurities so that the cream will work most effectively. Then, we evenly apply the cream to form a face mask, applying extra cream over blemishes. Once the cream has had time to set, you will be allowed to head home.

After your visit, you will need to leave the cream on your face for four to eight hours, depending on your skin complexion. When it's time to remove the mask, you can wash your face with water and a neutral cleanser, and then apply a layer of Hydra Vital Factor K cream over the entire treatment surface.

You're in charge of the second step of the treatment process, which will maintain the results of the initial face mask cream. Once a day, you will wash your face thoroughly with a mild cleanser, and apply a thin layer of Cosmelan 2 cream to your face using a light, circular movement. After 15 minutes, you will apply a layer of Hydra Vital Factor K.

Make sure to follow the treatment regimen carefully, and don't use other facial creams or skin lightening treatments during the Cosmelan process. Follow up visits are recommended 15 and 30 days after beginning the treatment, and then as needed based on the results you're seeing.

What Can I Expect After My Treatment?

For the first couple of days after your in-office treatment, your skin may appear red, as if you spent a day in the sun without sunscreen. Some patients report a slight itching or burning feeling, which can be controlled with the Hydra Vital Factor K. After a couple days, your skin will begin to flake or peel, and you can minimize the peeling through use of the Hydra Vital Factor K cream. The skin underneath will look more luminous, and you will notice dark spots starting to fade. Over the following weeks and months, spots will appear lighter and lighter as you continue the treatment process.
