Are you sick and tired of looking in the mirror and noticing an unwanted double chin? The presence of excess submental fat creates an out-of-shape appearance, even in those who are generally in good physical condition. It can also make a person look lethargic. This creates body issues and problems with self-confidence. To recontour the submental area, many people are trying out the state-of-the-art fat-reduction solution known as Kybella.
A double chin usually comes about due to several factors, such as genetics, weight gain, and the aging process. A strict exercise regimen and a proper diet can’t always change the appearance of excess fatty tissue in this area. Kybella injections are able to dissolve away that stubborn fat, recontouring the area to balance it with the rest of the facial features.
This fat-reduction injection is the first of its kind to gain FDA approval to correct excess submental fat in adults. It’s a rigorously clinically tested and proven option that can be specially designed for the patient’s beauty goals.
While liposuction is an effective surgical treatment for submental fat, many patients are not interested in undergoing any sort of surgical treatments. The idea of an operation can be intimidating, and the discomfort and recovery time that comes with it is not an appealing prospect.
Kybella is the only approved completely non-surgical injectable fat-reduction treatment. This means that there are no scalpels or incisions involved. You won’t have to deal with any frustrating and uncomfortable downtime, and you’ll be able to get right back to your daily schedule.

What exactly is Kybella? Also known as ATX-101, Kybella was created using a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid. This substance is normally found in the human body, where it emulsifies dietary fat. The Kybella formulation disables the cell membrane – the walls of the cell – and thus the general cohesion of it. Once the fat cell has been disabled, it is safely flushed out of the system over time. Removing a large number of fat cells reduces an area in volume.
Patients respond well and are typically very satisfied with this cutting-edge new treatment. Along with experiencing a reduction in submental fat, they feel better about their appearance and less self-conscious in regard to weight and the aging process.
In total, an in-office Kybella treatment usually only requires 15 to 20 minutes to perform. During treatments, the patient’s submental fat cells are targeted using precise injections. The number of injections required varies.
Typically, results can be seen after an average of two to four Kybella treatment sessions. Sometimes up to six are required to reach full results. Patients will wait one month between each session. Usually, after the patient’s desired degree of change has been reached, no more treatments will be necessary.
After treatment, some patients have experienced a degree of bruising, swelling, and/or numbness. This is temporary and will fade soon.
